The Day I Murdered A Bumblebee

I actually wrote this in February, but it's a tale I feel like sharing.
It was a sunny day. I'd been cleaning my room and contemplating what to have for lunch. Suddenly I heard a loud buzzing. Terrified, I rushed to get the electric bug zapper - so sure I was that the flying creature intended me harm. I got myself in such a fluster that when I saw the bee on my screen, I didn't even hesitate. I launched the zapper at him and hit the kill button. He buzzed even more frantically and I realised - too late - I was killing a precious bee.
Yet I couldn't stop.
I listened to his hurried buzzing and felt myself begin to sob. I was a murderer. A sadist. How could I hurt such a wonderful creature? The worst part of this all was... If I'd simply opened the screen, he could have flown to freedom. Instead, I let fear take hold and I ended his little carefree life.
The moral of this story is - don't let your fears control you. Sometimes a simpler, better solution is around the corner, if only you pause, take a breath, and wait.
Still - I am haunted by that terrible buzzing. I want to rewind the clock and save that beautiful bee. One day I hope to do the right thing by another bumblebee where I failed this one. Maybe I will have penance for my soul then.
